The Chamber Hall opened in December 2010 in the building of the Moscow Philharmonic Society (Tchaikovsky Hall). Composer Rodion Shchedrin participated in the concert performed in honor of the opening. A small, cozy auditorium seating just 98, the Chamber Hall is intended for performances by soloists, chamber groups, early and contemporary music ensembles, artistic gatherings and literary concerts. From the very beginning it was designated to become a “territory for experiment,” on the one hand, in the realm of contemporary music and multimedia, on the other, as a unique venue for young performers at an early stage of their career. And so it has become. Here, the Philharmonic Society produces subscription concerts, such as “The Composer…in Person,” “Author!” and “The Lively Path,” dedicated to the works of contemporary composers. With the opening of the Chamber Hall, one of the Philharmonic Society’s most important projects of recent years, its Program in Support of Young Performers, achieved final form. The Chamber Hall now often serves as the starting point for gifted young musicians on their journey to the “Philharmonic Olympus,” meaning participation in the prestigious subscription series called “Philharmonic Debut.”
