    Selected romantic piano sonatas

    Pavel Dombrovsky

    Pavel Dombrovsky was born in Moscow in 1982 and began studying music at the age of 5 at Stasov children’s music school with Svetlana Kurochkina. At the age of 11 he gave his first recital at the Scriabin Museum. 

    After graduating with honours from the Gnessin Moscow Special School of Music (class of Vera Nosina) in 1999, he enrolled at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory where he completed his undergraduate course with Prof. Lev Naumov in 2004 and his assistantship course with Prof. Andrey Diev in 2006. 

    The pianist’s extensive repertoire includes solo and chamber works of different periods and styles. He has toured throughout Russia, as well as in Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Poland, France, Latvia, South Korea, China, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan.

    Pavel Dombrovsky is the winner of the 2nd Open Competition for Young Pianists in St. Petersburg (1996), international music forums in Athens (1996) and Paris (1998), 5th Nariman Sabitov Open Competition in Ufa (2002), 2nd Balakirev Russian Music international competition in Krasnodar (2006, Grand Prix), and 1st International Stanisław Moniuszko Competition of Polish Music in Rzeszów, Poland (2019). 

    He has also received awards at the Marguerite Long–Jacques Thibaud International Competition in Paris (2004) and 4th International competition for young pianists in memory of Vladimir Horowitz in Kiev (2001), as well as diplomas at the 3rd International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians (St. Petersburg, 1998), 2nd International Scriabin Competition (Moscow, 2000), and 12th Tchaikovsky International Competition (2002). 

    Pavel Dombrovsky is an associate professor of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music.
