Masterpieces of Russian Classics with Boris Berezovsky

On May 16, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia will perform masterpieces of Russian classics. The program will be headlined by the world-famous pianist Boris Berezovsky, who will perform the solo part in Nikolai Medtner's Second Piano Concerto, a large-scale virtuoso work in bright colors and dedicated to Sergei Rachmaninov.

Creativity of Medtner for Boris Berezovsky acquired a special meaning. The pianist is known as a reference interpreter of his compositions and an active popularizer of his music. In particular, since 2006, at the initiative of the artist, the Medtner Festival was held in Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Vladimir, presenting an impressive anthology of works by the composer, whose work has always been in the shadow of great names. “Medtner has quite accessible music, he just managed to disguise it with complex language, harmonic delights,” says Boris Berezovsky. – Medtner is generally unique. He is insanely sentimental, he is the only composer that makes me cry... I also really like the way he uses folklore... He is a phenomenal stylist who can be compared to Mussorgsky...”.

In the second part, under the direction of the deputy artistic director of the NPR, conductor Arsenty Tkachenko, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's symphony "Manfred", created based on the dramatic poem of the same name by George Gordon Byron, will be performed.
