Great music for the whole family
Leonid Zhelezny was born in Moscow in 1994, began his music training at the Gnessin Moscow Special School of Music (class of Elena Malkina) and continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory’s Central Music School. He completed his education at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Alexander Vinnitsky, in whose class he is currently an assistant trainer.
Leonid has won prizes at the Young Musicians Competition of the Homecoming Festival (Moscow, 2009), Ludwig van Beethoven International Violin Competition in Vienna (2010, 2nd prize), Leopold Auer International Violin Competition in St. Petersburg (2015, 2nd prize, the 1st prize was not awarded), International Music Competition in Stockholm (2014, 1st prize), International Vladimir Spivakov Competition in Ufa (2016, 3rd prize), Václav Huml International Violin Competition in Zagreb (2017, 2nd prize), International Music Competition in Harbin (2018, 3rd prize) and 3rd All-Russian Music Competition in Moscow (2018, 2nd prize).
He has also received special awards at the 1st Viktor Tretyakov International Violin Competition in Krasnoyarsk (2018, a bow by a French luthier from Victor Tretyakov, and Yury Bashmet Special Award for the "Beautiful sound line"), 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition (2019, Best-Performing Participant of Round II), as well as the award of Creating Our Future Charity Fund of Gazprom and a grant by Statoil.
Leonid Zhelezny has appeared at the Moscow Conservatory, Moscow Philharmonic Hall, Pavel Slobodkin Centre, Moscow International House of Music, Tel Aviv Performing Arts Centre and other venues. He has collaborated with Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra, Novaya Rossiya State Symphony Orchestra, Musica Viva Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre, St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra, Pavel Slobodkin Centre Orchestra, orchestras of the North Caucasus Philharmonic and Irkutsk Philharmonic, Kostroma Region Symphony Orchestra, Kaluga Youth Symphony Orchestra, Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Bashkortostan, orchestras of Zagreb, Linköping, Harbin, Shenzhen and many others, led by Vyacheslav Valeev, Denis Vlasenko, Mikhail Gerts, Pavel Gershtein, Timur Zangiev, Vladimir Ryzhaev, Mikhail Simonyan, Alexander Titov, Philipp Chizhevsky, Joachim Gustafsson, Uroš Lajovic, Tomomi Nishimoto, Maxim Fedotov, Alim Shachmametiev and others.
